April 28 I can’t believe I’ve made it 18 weeks without buying stuff. I still think maybe that glass bowl was unnecessary, but I’m still feeling accomplished.
April 30 Lunch at the food carts, $21.85.
May 2 Lunch at the cheap Mexican chain, $20.85 – I buy lunch for a coworker too.
May 3 One of the best days this year quietly comes and goes: we have to do repairs to the Honda Pilot which amount to $1663: and we have the money in the bank. As recently as 1 year ago, we were in the habit of putting all of our auto repairs on Nate’s credit card. This feels like a milestone.
May 4 My daughter is so so excited about her friend’s birthday sleepover. She wants to buy her friend some kind of skin care or makeup item, so we go to Sephora. We peruse the moisturizer and face cleansers, and some lip gloss. I do have my own agenda here. I have, at last, run out of a tinted lip balm that I use frequently – used it down to the very nub. I replace it ($24) feeling a bit wobbly (is this really allowed?? I think it is) and my daughter finds a berry-scented lip gloss she loves, buying one for herself and one for her friend. She is using her own money to buy the gift and her first lip gloss. This is another kind of milestone – and it’s a bittersweet one.
